Benefits from the AOA

As a student of optometry, your membership with the American Optometric Association (AOA) is complimentary and is contingent upon your status as an active member of the American Optometric Student Association (AOSA). AOA offers many benefits to its student members. Some of these benefits are outlined below.

Student Debt Consolidation
www.aoaadvantage.org
Any AOA member who hasn't already consolidated their student loans can now take advantage of the AOAAdvantage Student Loan Consolidation program and cut monthly payments by 60% or more. Even if you are not a recent graduate, but perhaps you have a spouse or children or grandchildren with student loans, AOAAdvantage can work for you, too. AOAAdvantage offers either a principal reduction option or an interest rate reduction.
Finding Practice Opportunities
www.optometryscareercenter.org
Members who need help finding employment or a practice situation – or members who need to find an employee or an associate – can now register online for AOA's opportunity-matching service, Optometry's Career Center (OCC). OCC replaces the National Practice Resource Network (NPRN).
Running a Practice
AOA's Practice Resource Center
Doctors who need help starting or expanding a practice, who want to extend their practice to include children's and infants' vision, or who may be contemplating adding vision therapy to their practice can find information on all of these topics on the Practice Resource Center (PRC). Other resources include a new bibliography of books and resources available through the International Library, Archives, and Museum of optometry (ILAMO) and a Calendar of Eye Care Events with Web site links to the organizations sponsoring the observances.

Employed and Affiliated O.D.s
AOA's Resource Guide for Employed/Affiliated Optometrists
Employed doctors and those in settings affiliated with retail optical companies have all the needs of solo practitioners plus all the problems associated with contracts and the legal issues surrounding the term "independent contractor." To help meet those needs, AOA developed the Resource Guide fo Employed/Affiliated Optometrists. Don't sign a contact without reading this valuable resource!
